Brian Donovan Hunting Alaska Brown Bears

Kodiak Island has a much longer hunting season than we do here in the South-eastern corner of Alaska. As a result of the temperate coastal region and abundant food sources, however, we do have a much denser population of brown bear: one bear per each square mile. The enormous animals are not particularly sociable and tend to avoid other bears if at all possible. My name is Brian Donovan and I am owner of a lodge on the shores of Lake Alegnagik, close to the largest state park, Wood-Tikchik. The law in Alaska asserts that, if you want to hunt Alaska brown bear you must have a guide registered with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Each guide is licensed to different areas, or units. I own Donovan's Guide Services, and am licensed to take groups of guests out to hunt Alaska brown bear during the season in the unit consisting of the Wood-Tikchik State Park. For more information on the hunting potential of Alaska brown bear in this area, take a look at my website, Donovan's Guide Services: http://www.donovansguideservices.com This beautiful expanse of natural park offers an ecological resource, providing me with my livelihood.

I am a registered guide, licensed to hunt Alaska brown bear within the precincts of the magnificent Wood-Tikchik State Park. As a licensed guide and familiar with the habitat of the Alaska brown bear, I lead small groups during the hunting season, offering an Alaskan Hunting Adventure of a Lifetime. This can be seen on Donovan's Guide Services website: http://www.donovansguideservices.com. I ensure that all the guides I hire for my guests' comfort are chosen for their expertise, commitment and knowledge of Alaska brown bear hunting. I maintain a personal responsibility, however, and ensure that I always attend the hunting expeditions for Alaska brown bears. All my clients have the opportunity of bagging an award-winning bear, many of which weigh in excess of 800lb and grow to around 8 feet tall. Donovan's Guide Services ensures that only small groups are accepted at any one time, so places do get booked up very quickly. To ensure a place is available for the dates you would like, please see Donovan's Guide Services: http://www.donovansguideservices.com.

Unlike Kodiak Island in the north, the South-eastern coastal area of Alaska has two seasons for hunting the Alaska brown bear: spring and fall. Spring is often considered the best time as there is less undergrowth ensuring better visibility, the bears have just woken from hibernation and are highly visible as they themselves hunt for food. A particularly popular reason for hunting Alaska brown bear in the spring is for the thickness and good quality of their pelts. Hunting during the fall is a more laid-back pastime, camping in tents in the Wood-Tikchik State Park and hunting for brown bear from boats on the lake. Hunting brown bear in the Fall is a different experience, with the Alaska brown bears being much bigger and heavier after spending the summer foraging for food. My website, Donovan's Guide Service will give you all the details about Alaska brown bear hunting: http://www.donovansguideservice.com or you can email me with any questions on donovanhunting@yahoo.com .

There is a very sound reason why I ensure the groups I lead are small: Alaska brown bears are unpredictable and, a bear in a bad temper is a very large, heavy and dangerous experience. Besides being volatile and prone to charging without thought, they are persistent and do not easily give up their targets. The best way I can ensure the safety of the groups who are guided by me and my other professional guides, is to keep the numbers of guests within manageable levels. There is plenty of information on the website of Donovan's Guide Services, providing an assortment of information about Alaska brown bear hunting. Take a tour around Donovan's Guide Service website which you can find at http://www.donovansguideservice.com or simply log on and type in 'Donovan's Guide Service'.
