The Nushagak River is over 200 miles long and rises deep in the western Alaskan mountains from where its crystal clear waters flow towards the estuary at Bristol Bay. Besides the remarkable fishing opportunities, the spectacular scenery is well worth a second glance, so bring your cameras along with you. Around the banks of the river, if you are particularly observant, you can often be seen moose and caribou, wolves and foxes. Closer to the riverbank you can frequently spot beavers and otters and watch black and brown bears playing and catching fish, often quite nearby. Donovan's Guide Service aim to provide their guests with a supreme experience of some of the most awesome fishing grounds anywhere in Alaska, the heart of the spawning grounds: http://www.donovansguideservices.com. Bristol Bay, into which the waters of the Nushagak empty, is the 'Salmon Capital of the World' and the Nushagek River is renowned for hosting Alaska's largest run of King Salmon. On average this consists of around 200,000 King Salmon. Besides its abundance of King Salmon, the Nushagak River is legendary for extremely large runs of Chum Salmon, Silver Salmon, as well as Dolly Varden which are another species of the trout family. Additional copious quantities of grayling, northern pike are also in evidence, feeding amongst the reeds for eggs previously laid by the returning salmon. Come and experience the Alaska fishing experience with Donovan's Guide Services: http://www.donovansguideservices.com. Vast quantities of rainbow trout, originating from South-west Alaska, have particularly vibrant markings and are known locally known as leopard trout. These are renowned for their agility and provide an exceptional Alaska fishing experience. King Salmon can be very aggressive and Chum Salmon can be ferocious. With the substantial weight of 25lbs plus behind them, they are a match for any angler. Silver Salmon, also known as Coho Salmon, congregate in the Nushagek River system and provide an astounding display of fortitude as they aim towards the fish runs, providing aerobatic displays as they jump against the flow of the river. You can use fly fishing or bait to catch them. Each Coho weighs, on average, around 10 lbs and, while they are plentiful and provide amazing acrobatic displays with their agility, fishing them is limited to 5 fish per person. Red Salmon, or Sockeye, is particularly plentiful, with over 1 million entering the Nushagak River to spawn. These usually weigh around 8lbs and provide an opportunity for developing your skills with fly rods or spinning rods. Another plentiful fish in the Nushagak River are rainbow trout, some growing up to 30 inches in length. Again, you can develop your fly fishing skills with an Alaska fishing experience of a lifetime: http://www.donovansguideservices.com. Despite the abundance, to ensure each guest is able to take advantage of the best Alaska fishing on offer, it is necessary for the fishing guides to be familiar with habitats, river management and fishing techniques. All my guides employed here at Donovan's Fishing Guides are highly experienced, know the locality intimately and are all picked by me for their sound knowledge of fishing techniques and instruction methods. To ensure the local stock of fish is maintained, all but the salmon can only be caught as trophies.
