My name is Brian Donovan and I am a registered guide, licensed to hunt Alaska brown bear within the precincts of the magnificent Wood-Tikchik State Park. As a licensed guide and familiar with the habitat of the Alaska brown bear, I lead small groups during the hunting season, offering an Alaskan Hunting Adventure of a Lifetime. This can be seen on Donovan's Guide Services website: http://www.donovansguideservices.com.
The Alaska brown bear is likely to appear when you least expect it and, unless prepared, you could be putting yourself at significant disadvantage, even considerable jeopardy. Some of the biggest bears can be found in the Alaskan Peninsula although the biggest ever, measured according to Boone and Crockett's criteria of measuring the width of the skull at its widest point, was hunted on Kodiak Island in 1952. Being prepared is not just being vigilant to the approach of the Alaska brown bear: it is also being appropriately dressed for the substantial variation in climate that can occur in this terrain over a 24 hour period. It is also wearing suitable footwear and carrying the most appropriate 'bear stoppers': the capacity of the .375 H & H Magnum, the .358 Magnum, the . 340 Weatherby, or the .338 Winchester. Weather in Alaska is as unpredictable as the Alaska brown bear and can transform from glacial to sultry over the space of a single night. Alaska has recently pioneered new regulations relating to Alaska brown bear hunting. Registered guides, such as me, Brian Donovan, now have to pre-register a camp at least 10 days before the Alaska brown bear hunting season is due to commence. This camp must then remain in that licensed place throughout the rest of that season, with Alaska brown bear hunting from this location often extending for considerable distances. This obviously is going to require a certain level of stamina. There is plenty of information on the website of Donovan's Guide Services, providing an assortment of information about Alaska brown bear hunting. Take a tour around Donovan's Guide Service website which you can find at http://www.donovansguideservice.com or simply log on and type in 'Donovan's Guide Service'.
When joining an Alaska brown bear hunt I would advise my guests to dress in accordance with the prevailing weather conditions, clothes in a series of layers which can be added to or removed as required. Adequate footwear also needs to be brought with you. Overt boots, with their waterproof tops, are ideal as they are light enough to walk in comfortably. If ground conditions are suitable then ordinary leather walking boots might be enough. One of the most essential items of clothing I could recommend my guests bring with them would be a waterproof parka such as those now made out of Bulkflex which disperses any moisture from inside the jacket to keep you dry and comfortable and protects from both wind and rain. A little forethought and preparation will make the difference between an enjoyable adventure and suffering a wretched experience when seeking out the Alaska brown bear to hunt.
